The latest from Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli on the Tim Thomas front is actually kind of funny. While Thomas still has not "officially" said he'll be sitting out, its what he all can expect. Good riddance.
But the kicker this time, is that according to Chiarelli on ESPN.com, Thomas is setting his sights on the 2014 Olympics as his next goal.
"I almost have to operate under the assumption he isn't coming back,"
Chiarelli said. "I've had some discussions with Tim and he's told
me that he wants to play in the Olympics the following year, so I'll
have more discussions with him later on."
So right now, Thomas is sitting around, claiming to be "practicing" or "making safer equipment" or something, while he makes $3 million and uses up $5 million of the Bruins salary cap. If that isn't enough, now he's assuming that he'll be chosen, two months shy of his 40th birthday, to represent the United States of America... over Ryan Miller (who started over Thomas in every game in the 2010 Olympics), the brick wall Jonathan Quick, or rising star Jimmy Howard.
Good luck with that, Tim...
