The Answers: How Old is Too Old to Wear a Glove to a Baseball Game?

At Fenway Park, gates open smack in the middle of pre-game batting practice.  Fans rush in and line the right field corner and center field bleachers hoping to get a home run, usually from the away team, guilt-free.

Now everyone knows, a batted ball, even 380 feet out in right field, has some steam behind it, and catching one can be difficult, even if you're squared up and ready.  But the question we're looking at today:  At what age is bringing a glove to the game considered ridiculous?

This is another question that may have several factors, but still only one clear answer.  Where you are sitting makes a huge difference.  For instance, if you're behind home plate behind the screen and you have a glove, you might as well go home.  If you're sitting two seats behind Pesky's Pole, I'll allow it... to a certain extent.

What it really comes down to is, at what age are you considered a man?  According to Jewish tradition, that age is 13.  At 14, I attended a Catholic all-male high school where the motto was "Be a Man."  I'll go ahead and attribute that motto directly to catching a baseball sans glove.  If you really need a glove to pull off the catch, then I hope you're a 12 year old boy otherwise, that's just embarrassing, man.

A few things considered, some omitted, but I believe the final answer is clear: If you're in high school, NO gloves at the games, gentlemen. The combination of man without a glove and boy with a glove is allowable, but only if you're making insane catches like the one in the video above.
